Genre: Texas Style Blues / Rock on Steroids!
THE REX CARROLL BAND was formed in 1997 after already achieving success with his other group WHITECROSS. This new group featured Rex on lead vocals and guitar, and dove straight into blues and southern rock.
The sound of THE REX CARROLL BAND has been compared to Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Topp, and The Allman Brothers. Performing mostly around the upper mid-west United States, The Rex Carroll Band has racked up a long run of local roadhouses, bike events, and occasional road dates. Eventually, they reached the point of being invited to perform at the Harley Davidson 100th anniversary in Milwaukee.
In 2003 they were invited to be presenters at the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) awards, were they were also finalists for artist of the year. In 2004 Rex came in 3rd place at the North American Rock Guitar competition, sponsored by Guitar Player magazine in Buffalo New York. This contest featured entries from the entire United States, Canada, and Europe and was judged by a panel including Rik Emmett of Triumph.
In 2010 THE REX CARROLL BAND performed at Legends of Rock Festival in Ennepetal, Germany.
In 2013 they played at Elements of Rock in Umea, Switzerland.
In 2014 they have played around the Chicago area with tour dates scheduled to the east coast (Baltimore) and a Midwest-to-midsouth tour of Chicago to Dallas and back.
In 2010 they released their first album, entitled “That Was Then, This Is Now”. In 2014 they are scheduled to release their second album, entitled “Stepping Out”. The guitar style of “Stepping Out” has been coined “Vaughndrix” for the comparisons to both Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Jimi Hendrix.
Both albums are on the Retroactive Records label. The first album has been a big success, now going into its fourth physical pressing, and with thousands of downloads sold.
